Project Management Workshop for Teenagers

On Sunday 6 October, as part of the Connecting Generations programme, we held an interactive Project Management Workshop for teenagers — and it was powerful, exciting, and genuinely useful.

Twelve active Ukrainian teens living in the UK, aged 14 to 21, took part in the session. And in just a few hours, they didn’t just learn something new — they gained practical skills they can use at school, in future jobs, or to bring their own creative ideas to life.

We explained everything in a clear and straightforward way:

  • how to set realistic goals

  • how to break tasks into manageable steps

  • how to create a timeline and stay focused on the outcome

  • how to lead a project from start to finish

The workshop was led by Julia Velichko, an experienced, practicing project manager with hands-on expertise in real-world project delivery. There were plenty of real-life examples, teamwork, and hands-on activities.

The teens quickly got involved — laughing, asking questions, sharing ideas, and solving problems together. No one stayed silent. Everyone was thinking and acting like a real manager, watching their ideas take shape.

The workshop also helped them develop key soft skills — teamwork, responsibility, critical thinking, and decision-making. And the best part?

Every participant left thinking, “I can do this!”

This youth workshop, organised for Kryla Youth Club in Birmingham, was more than just a learning session — it was also an important first step in a bigger intergenerational project: creating a comic-style book about the lives of our grandparents.

Soon, these same teens will apply what they’ve learnt to a real social project that connects generations and brings deeper meaning to the Ukrainian community in the UK. t was a brilliant start to something much bigger — and we’re so proud of how it began.

Thank you to everyone who took part!

More workshops, soft skills training, teamwork and new experiences are coming soon for Ukrainian teenagers in the West Midlands.
