On 10 September 2025, 18 Ukrainian refugees in Birmingham took part in a powerful training that helped them practise professional communication in English.
The Networking and Self-Presentation Training was designed for those who have recently arrived in the UK and are adjusting to a new language, culture, and professional environment. Whether preparing for a job interview, attending a networking event, or joining a business meeting, these situations demand more than just knowing the right words — they require confidence, clarity, and connection.
The session was led by Kateryna Yermak, an expert in international communication, who provided participants with practical tools and real-life practice. The training focused on:
How to deliver a confident and effective self-presentation
Topics to use during first-time business or networking meetings
How to respond clearly when there are language misunderstandings
Techniques to keep conversations going — even when you’re unsure of the right words
For many, it was a rare opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a safe and encouraging environment. The session didn’t just build skills — it boosted self-belief.
One participant shared: “For the first time, I felt like I could actually introduce myself without freezing.”
This training was part of Kryla’s Employment and Business Support programme, which offers practical tools to help Ukrainians in the UK find jobs, start businesses, and communicate freely in professional settings. This session helped participants build the language and networking skills needed to feel confident in English-speaking environments and move forward in their careers.
