On 13 July, we held a special event for the Ukrainian community in the West Midlands that will stay in our hearts for a long time. Our Family Sports Day brought together over 20 Ukrainian families — children, parents, and grandparents — all ready for a day full of movement, fun, and laughter.
The atmosphere was full of energy and joy. Parents competed like they were in the World Cup. Grandmas and grandads became the stars of the day with their jokes, enthusiasm, and team spirit. You could see they were having just as much fun as the kids. And the the most important part? Everyone was together.
Our wonderful coaches, Taras and Roman, created exciting challenges for all ages and made sure every person felt included and welcome.
The biggest hit of the day was the “Dragon Battle”. Teams formed dragons and raced together, testing both speed and teamwork. The winning dragon, led by its “head” — Vadym — became a legend in the community. Now we all know him as Dragon Vadym.
Thanks to the simple format and warm atmosphere, children felt safe and happy. Adults had a chance to relax and enjoy the moment, leaving daily stress behind for a while. Families connected, new friendships began, and some even made plans to meet again. It wasn’t just a fun event — it was a moment of trust, care, and support. And that is key when building a strong community in the UK.
The event also encouraged families to be more active together. It showed that sport and movement can bring people closer, boost energy, and help everyone feel more at home in a new country.
At the end of the day, all children received medals and sweet treats. Their smiling faces were the perfect way to finish a beautiful day.
This wasn’t just a sports day. It was a day of warmth, togetherness, and shared joy. A day we want to repeat again and again. Events like this help Ukrainian families in the UK feel at home and become part of something bigger.
