On 30 September, we hosted a special legal information session for Ukrainian refugees at the Midlands Arts Centre in Birmingham. Organised in partnership with Sterling Law — a leading legal firm with over 15 years of experience and ranked in the UK’s top 20 — the event attracted over 40 Ukrainians from Birmingham and the wider West Midlands.
What began as a legal talk quickly turned into an engaging, four-hour conversation full of real questions, real answers, and genuine connection.
Our expert speakers included:
– Yurii Lysenko and Ruslan Kosarenko, co-founders and partners at Sterling Law
– Halyna Semchak, legal expert at Sterling Law
– Oleksandr Grushetskyi, managing partner at Faros Capital Ltd
They covered key topics for Ukrainians in the UK — recent immigration changes, the move to e-visas, options for switching visa types, and legal and tax advice for refugees and entrepreneurs. Practical questions came up around Travel Certificates, sponsorship visas, and self-employment tax.
What made this session special was the open format: everyone had the chance to ask questions directly and receive clear, practical answers. No jargon — just helpful insights, shared with care.
The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and many stayed long after the session ended — chatting, exchanging stories, and building a sense of community.
We’re grateful to Sterling Law for their professionalism and to all who joined. The need for free legal support is growing — and we’re already planning the next session for Ukrainians in Birmingham and beyond.
More events coming soon — stay tuned!
